Expanded Capabilities

Azimuth CNC, has expanded its capabilities with the acquisition of a Deckel Maho Gildemeister DMU125P 5-Axis high-speed machining center

This adds a fourth 5-Axis machine to our shop. Adding a bigger machine is a logical step in increasing the level of service we can offer our customers",  explains Shop Manager Jim Epperson.  "With a 60" diameter rotary table and B-Axis head, we can machine significantly larger parts."

This is the fourth Deckel Maho machine in the shop which means the learning curve for our engineering and machining staff was minimal.  "Rigged in on Wednesday, making chips on Friday!", Epperson exclaimed. Azimuth CNC's core business will continue to be precision contract machining of tooling, prototypes and short run production.

ISO certification updated to 9001:2008

Azimuth CNC is keeping our ISO certification current. On April 22, 2010 we passed our surveillance audit with no non-conformities, and updated our certification to the 9001:2008 standard. We know maintaining our quality standards is important to our customers, and it is a priority to keep our certification current.

12/15/2009:

The Machining Services Division of Cad Cam Systems is now
Azimuth CNC
Our Staff, our Expertise and our Dedication to Quality have not changed.
We remain your best source for custom precision machined parts.

This has generated some questions from our customers.

First Question:
Why the heck do you need a new name? Simply put, it has become an internet marketing world.

Potential machining customers who google "precision 5-axis machining" and see a response for Cad Cam Systems assume we only sell software and pass over our link. The name Azimuth CNC states more clearly we do CNC machining, so that confusion should be eliminated.

Second Question:
OK, maybe a new name for your machining business makes sense, why Azimuth?

Azimuth was the name of a very complex part that we machined.

Because of a nondisclosure agreement we cannot tell you much about the part. We can tell you the aluminum billet weighed 900 lbs. when it arrived and only 23 lbs. when we shipped the completed part. There were also some difficult features and tight tolerances that required our 5-axis expertise. The name of the part was "Azimuth".

Upon completing the Azimuth project we knew we had arrived. We had found our way from a "machining laboratory" that is part of a CAD CAM reseller to a precision 5-axis machine shop that can successfully compete with any shop in the world.

As it happens the root word of Azimuth means "the way taken by a traveler." It is a fitting name to describe our transition to a machining company. More importantly it is a fitting word to describe our continuing journey to provide better service and greater value to our customers.

Last Question:
What does this mean to our Cad Cam Systems customers?

Machining services customers will now be receiving quotes, packing lists and invoices, etc. from Azimuth CNC. If you also buy software products and services from us, those documents will still be under the Cad Cam Systems name.

All contact information (except the business name) remains the same: same physical address, telephone and fax numbers. Bruce Janusevic and Jim Epperson have new e-mail addresses: Bruce@azimuthcnc.com and Jim@azimuthcnc.com.

We now have 2 web sites: a new site www.azimuthcnc.com for machining services and our www.cadcamsystemsinc.com web site for software customers.

We hope you'll continue with us on the journey,

Jim Epperson
and the Azimuth CNC staff
