Azimuth CNC is a Division of Cad Cam Systems, Inc.
Cad Cam Systems Inc. is really two businesses working together, each strengthening the other.
- The "Cad Cam" business sells CAD and CAM software with implementation, training and technical support.
- The "Azimuth CNC" business uses that software and a lot of experience to do close tolerance, high precision, CNC 5 axis machining.
Partners Jim Epperson and Andy Bergstrom started Cad Cam Systems in 1986, selling CAD/CAM software. Cad Cam Systems,Inc. is the most experienced Delcam software reseller in the USA.
In 1996 we bought a vertical machining center and began doing contract CNC machining for software customers. By 2008, we had expanded far beyond our software customer base to new industries. New customers looking for a machine shop were confused by the Cad Cam Systems name, so we gave the contract machining business a separate identity of Azimuth CNC.
Why Azimuth?
Azimuth was the name of a very complex part that we machined.
Because of a nondisclosure agreement we cannot tell you much about the part. We can tell you the aluminum billet weighed 900 lbs. when it arrived and only 23 lbs. when we shipped the completed part. There were also some difficult features and tight tolerances that required our 5-axis expertise. The name of the part was "Azimuth".
Upon completing the Azimuth project we knew we had arrived. We had found our way from a "machining laboratory" that is part of a CAD CAM reseller to a precision 5-axis machine shop that can successfully compete with any shop in the world.
As it happens the root word of Azimuth means "the way taken by a traveler." It is a fitting name to describe our transition to a machining company. More importantly it is a fitting word to describe our continuing journey to provide better service and greater value to our customers.
We hope you'll continue with us on the journey,
